Ally Wallace’s practice involves the production of large-scale site-specific sculptural installations. His interest in spatial design and construction results in his use of architectural elements (such as dimensions, layout, colour and lighting) in the creation of his modular, divisible constructions. This rigidity of form is relaxed by his focus on lightweight, easily disassembled materials. The tension between the intensity of his design-based formal concerns and the lighter, somewhat domestic and fragile material leads to the creation of works whose spatial presence is constantly fluctuating between permanence and impermanence, assemblage and dis-assemblage.
